Who we are and what we do

Trade unions are groups of working people who join together to defend and improve conditions at work. Trade unions represent members in the workplace, and also campaign to defend working people’s right to live decent and dignified lives, inside work and outside of it.

The Labour Party is a partnership of working people, bringing together affiliated trade unions, socialist societies and Labour Party members. The union link means that trade unions are an integral part of the Labour Party, and that we have a say in the Labour Party’s democratic decision making at every level, from local constituency parties, to Annual Conference, to the governing National Executive Committee.

Trade unions use their voice in the Party to push for policies that will transform the lives of working people for the better.

All the evidence shows that having a union at your workplace means that will have safer workplace. Responding to the coronavirus crisis with some workers being encouraged to return to their place of work – of course many thousands of workers never left their workplace in the first instance – Labour led Haringey Council in partnership with the TUC are campaigning for all workers to join a union and to make sure that there are safe workplaces for all.

The button below opens the Trade Union Congress (TUC) trade union finder where you can discover which trade union represents you.
