We are committed to:

  • a national, free health and social care service, available to all and increased democratic accountability
  • increased funding for health and social care, at least to the levels of comparable countries
  • abolish  the market for healthcare. Reinstate the NHS as the preferred provider. Competition on quality not price, enshrined in legislation.

We meet every 2 months for discussion on local, London and national issues related to health and social care.

We have lobbied and campaigned on the Health & Care Bill, which passed into law in June 2022,  and the problems in primary care, including privatisation and the takeover of practices by Centene/Operose. As these contracts come up for renewal, we are still hoping to prevent their extension.

We have made several deputations to the North Central London Joint Overview Health & Scrutiny Committee,  we collaborate closely with councillors, and have provided briefings for the Labour shadow health team.

In June we held a highly successful meeting that our MP Catherine West hosted in parliament on health inequalities,  with Andrew Gwynne shadow Minister for Health & Social Care, Jessica Allen, deputy director,  the Institute for Health Equity, UCL and Dr  John Robson, GP  and academic, at Queen Mary College. (See post below)

We submitted evidence to the parliamentary Health Select Committee of the Future of General Practice, and every year we contribute to Labour’s  National Policy Forum.  One of our members attended the 20222 conference with leaflets about the future of primary care (see post below).

Some of our members are very active in social care and are on council forums including Haringey Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Older People’s Reference Group, Joint Partnership Board, Osborne Grove Redesign group and Disability Action Haringey

Many of us are also members of other campaigning groups, for example: Socialist Health Association, Keep Our NHS Public, Hornsey Pensioners Action Group, the Social Care Alliance Haringey, Save Autism Services Haringey, UNITE community, the Relatives and Residents Association, Doctors 4 the NHS and others.
