Information for prospective applicants to the Haringey Labour Party’s approved Council Candidate Panel

Deadline for applying is 11.59pm on Monday 5 September 2022

From The Haringey LCF

The Haringey Local Campaign Forum is opening up applications from members for the approved Councillor Candidate Panel.

Once you are accepted onto the panel you may apply to be the candidate in any by-election; if a by-election is called there may not be time to re-open the panel at that point so if there is any possibility that you would wish to put yourself forward for selection, should this happen, you would be advised to apply now.

You will find the documents you need to complete for your application.  We also strongly advise you to read the other documents that are available here.

Preparing

If you are considering applying, please read the following documents which will give you an idea of what is involved and what qualities, skills and knowledge Councillors require:

  1. Becoming a Labour Councillor
  2. Be a Councillor (LGA)
  3. Being an Effective Ward Councillor
  4. Haringey LCF Contract with Councillors (for information only, not for completion by applicants)
  5. Job description and person specification

It would also be useful for you to attend any Council meetings open to the public, if you haven’t already done so, you can find these on the Haringey Council website.

Another useful way of finding out about the work of local Councillors is to watch the videos of past Haringey Council meetings. You can find the link to them on the Agenda Frontsheet for each meeting by going to this page of Haringey Council’s website.

We also suggest that it would be very helpful for you to familiarise yourself with Appendix 4 of the current Labour Party Rule Book.

Please also consider attending the national Labour Party’s ‘Be a Councillor’ sessions in July 2022.  You can book your places here. You can also watch webinars from the two earlier sessions here.

Applying

Once you have read documents listed above, and possibly attended some training sessions, if you decide to apply, please complete these three documents below and return them to haringeylcf@gmail.com by 11.59pm on Monday 5 September

  1. Application form
  2. Declarations form
  3. Monitoring form

We are planning to hold interviews for applicants between Monday 12th September and Sunday 9th October 2021.  Please indicate in your email whether there are times when you would be unable to attend for an interview. Please also say if you have any access requirements or if you require any of the documentation on the website to be supplied to you in an alternative format. The interviews will be held on Zoom.
