Despite thousands of citizens writing to question Justice Secretary Chris Grayling’s plans, the Tory minister, supported by the Liberal Democrat party, has decided to implement large cuts to our legal aid system, says Catherine West, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Hornsey and Wood Green.
"It will be far more difficult for people to defend welfare benefit cases, be properly represented in complex immigration cases and to settle disputes over contact with children.
"It will also mean a reduction in advice services, voluntary legal centres and high street solicitor firms at a time when people need more high quality advice not less.
"These cuts will make it more difficult for people on ordinary incomes to stand up for their rights."
