Labour's Pledges for May Local Elections

local2014a.jpgLabour Group Leader Claire Kober introduces Haringey Labour's key pledges and candidates for the 2014 local elections, May 22 2014.

I’m pleased to introduce our great Labour team for 2014 - local people, on your side, committed to making Haringey a better place for all.

We are local residents who truly reflect the diversity of our communities. 44% are women and almost the same proportion are from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. 9 of us are aged 30 or under.

We are ready for the challenge of supporting our neighbours across the borough and fighting for fairness in these increasingly difficult times under the Lib Dem/Conservative government. We are proud of what we have achieved so far – rapidly improving schools, award-winning parks, safer, cleaner streets and a five year Council Tax freeze.

We have been talking to local people throughout Haringey about what you want and what our priorities should be to make our borough an even greater place to live. If we are re-elected we will:

  • Freeze Council Tax for four more years, until 2018

  • Invest £25 million improving our pavements and roads making them more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly

  • Ensure every school and childcare setting is rated good or outstanding by Ofsted

  • Invest £1 million to put more police on our streets

  • Deliver more than 1,000 new affordable homes, 250 built by the council.

If you have any questions or comments you can use the comment form here, email elections@haringeylabour.org.uk or give us a call on 020 8340 7362.

Please get in contact in the same way if you can help with our campaign in any way or if you want information about getting a postal vote, help getting to the polling station or any other matter.

Remember, you can still register to vote and make your vote for Labour count. Details here: http://voting.haringey.gov.uk/register-to-vote/,  or give us a call.

And if you won’t be around on Polling Day 22nd May you can register for a postal vote. Deadline to submit your application is 5pm Wednesday 7th May. Give us a call or drop us an email to get your postal vote. More details here: http://voting.haringey.gov.uk/absent-voting/#postalvoting
