Your Labour councillors take action on bus diversions

Statement by Cllr Liz McShane and Cllr James Patterson

During the last few weeks, many local bus services have been diverted.  This is the result of a seven week road works programme on Colney Hatch Lane.  Many local residents have expressed their frustration with the effects of this.

As ward councillors, we have taken action to mitigate the inconvenience caused.  We immediately raised our concerns with Council officers.  Subsequently, the Council took action to prevent local roads being used as rat runs.

We are of the view that Transport for London (TfL) failed to consult adequately about the diversion of bus services.  Furthermore, the notice period was insufficient.  We have therefore written to TfL to express this

Our letter has proposed that TfL should implement special measures during the interim.  These include the provision of shuttle service between Muswell Hill and Bounds Green.  Also, we have asked that those with pre-paid Oyster cards are compensated.

We will issue a further statement once we have received a response from TfL.  In future, we will seek to ensure that they communicate effectively with the Council.  We feel strongly that there are lessons to be learned.
