Labour’s candidate for MP in Hornsey & Wood Green Catherine West has welcomed a new opinion poll, showing that Labour leads Lynne Featherstone and the Lib Dems by a substantial 13%.
The poll, published by Lord Ashcroft, provides a snapshot of voting intentions.
43% of those surveyed said they would be voting Labour in Hornsey & Wood Green in the forthcoming General Election, against 30% support for the Lib Dems (see Table 7, p7).
If this poll snapshot were translated into a General Election result it would mean a strong win for Catherine West in May 2015, reversing Lynne Featherstone’s current majority.
Catherine West said:
“The poll confirms what I am hearing on the doorstep. It is the same message from voters right across the constituency.
“Former Lib Dem voters are disappointed and dismayed that Lynne Featherstone has become a Minister in a Tory Government.
“Many say they will now be voting Labour next year.
“They are angry that Lynne voted to treble student fees, give millionaires a tax cut, bring in the bedroom tax and reorganize the NHS so that waiting times have increased.
“A Labour Government will end the crisis in A&E and guarantee that GP appointments will take place in 48 hours. We will abolish the bedroom tax. And we will help our young people get on the housing ladder and into proper jobs, ending zero hours contracts.”
“But this poll is a snapshot, not an election result. I will be campaigning hard to win and look forward to meeting and talking with as many voters as possible between now and May 2015.”
